Zula restaurant & wine bar11/28/2023 ![]() Laid-back and low-key is exactly the atmosphere McGown, along with partners Theo Kirk, Lyle Matthis, and Verlin Taylor, are hoping to cultivate at their new wine bar in a historic space formerly occupied by a Piggly Wiggly grocery store in the 1920s. CultureMap Dallas reported on the new bar first.ĭoland McGown had the idea for Distinctive Vines after frequenting San Antonio’s Copa Wine Bar, a place he describes as “laid-back, where you don’t have to be intimidated if you don’t know wine.” Called Distinctive Vines, the bar is a joint venture by the group of Dallas ISD graduates who met over 20 years ago - three as co-workers in the IT industry, and the fourth, a neighbor. Four business professionals originally from Oak Cliff opened a wine bar serving flatbreads, charcuterie, and cakelettes on South Akard Street in the Cedars district this summer.
